CIMOSA

A Primer on key concepts, purpose and business value

2. Who are involved

In 1985, the ESPRIT Consortium AMICE started to work on the definition and specification of a CIM architecture for enterprise integration. Starting in 1990 the development work has been complemented by three independent ESPRIT projects (CIMPRES, CODE, VOICE) involved in CIMOSA validation. During the different project phases the following companies and research organisations have been involved in the development and validation of CIMOSA (see Table 1):

Table 1: CIMOSA Participating Organisations

The all encompassing goal of this major effort of ESPRIT was to establish standards in the area of CIM especially on enterprise modelling and a supporting IT infrastructure. The following areas have been the main focus of these efforts.

A close liaison with European and international standardisation organisations has been established to stimulate the standardisation process for Enterprise Integration. Besides the participation in the official standardisation organisations, an new approach has been taken to prepare and promote upcoming quasi-standards through harmonisation of different parallel development efforts.

The AMICE Consortium has established a base for standardisation which is constantly followed by the succeeding organisations like the CIMOSA Association and others who work in related areas of standardisation. Their activities are described in the Annex of the document.
