CIMOSA Applications 1994-1997
|
1. CIMOSA Applications in Industry
Fiat Auto/I : Gearbox Production
The model describes re-engineering of material flow and logistics in
a gearbox assembly plant applying a mix of pull/push strategies [Kosanke94].
Benefits :
- A reference model with an 8x reduced model change effort
- compared to the previously used method.
- Significant quality improvements of the logistics processes.
Magneti Marelli Ricambi/I : Automobile Components Supplier
An integrated process model of the spare parts distribution system is
developed covering customers, suppliers, warehouses and transport enterprises
[Reyneri97]
Benefits :
- Reduced delivery time
- Improved quality and flexibility of spare parts supply
- Usage of model to redesign and validate the information system
Koehler/D : Paper Production :
Production planning and control under fast changing customer requirements
was analysed, simulated and improved using model based approach. [neuscheler95]
Benefits:
- 4 MioDM cost avoidance of a material/product buffer store
- 2x improvement in reaction to changes of customer requirements
Traub/D : Machine Tools
The manufacturing planning and control process of complex sub-assemblies
of machine tools was modelled and re-engineered [Schlotz95]
Benefits:
- 60 % reduction of commissioning time of customer orders
- Improved configuration of machining centres
ELVAL/GR , Aluminium Casting
The concepts and methologies of CIMOSA Modelling - especially that of
executable models - and of the Integrating Infrastructure (IIS) have been
validated in a typical aluminium casting plant [arabatzis95]
Benefits:
- Demonstration of feasibility
2. CIMOSA Applications in Research and Development
Note : A comprehensive overview on enterprise modelling and integration
can be found in the book of F. Vernadat [vernadat96].
ESPRIT Consortium AIT : Reference Model
EP 7704 : Advanced Information Technology in Design and Manufacturing
Reference model for product development in the Auto/Aerospace Industry,
developed by FIAT, member of the CIMOSA Association .
Goal : Reduced effort of a company specific process-model.
ESPRIT Consortium PRIMA : Reference Model
EP 9904 : Process Industries Manufacturing Advantage through Information
Technology
Reference model for processes in the petro-chemical industry (in
preparation)
University Karlsruhe : IPR : Bottom-up Process Modelling and Simulation
A bottom-up methodology to design a particular CIMOSA model according
to a specific goal has been developed. An enterprise model is expanded
from inside to outside adding Particular Model Components (PMC) . The methodology
has been validated with several applications of simulation[reithofer96].
A complementary investigation is concerned with the modelling of process
chains [janusz96]
FZK Karlsruhe, Institute for Applied Informatics : System Modelling
and Simulation
One investigation describes modelling, analysis and simulation of integrated
product design and process planning in micro systems to explore fabrication
alternatives, process plans and expected yields. Optimisation of costs,
lead times and machine utilisation is achieved through benchmarks using
the economic view of the CIMOSA modelling framework[huber95]
Another investigation was concerned with a model based method to select
application resources for the configuration of CIM systems. The underlying
idea is the conversion of the planning problem into an equivalent constraint
satisfaction problem. [naeger95]
Engineering School Offenburg : Decentralised Information and Communication
Structures
The DARIF Project develops tools and methods for decentralised workgroups
and information structures based on business processes with the following
CIMOSA relevant activities :
- Modelling information, communication and business processes [sternemann97]
- Reference model for crafts enterprises and low end SME's
- Tool development PACE , direct data exchange (DDE) interface for process
oriented modelling and simulation [IBE97]
ITEM St Gallen University : Organisational Aspects
Based on the CIMOSA modelling framework, potentials of strategic management
integrating economic, technical and human aspects have been investigated.
Modelling the organisation as part of a holistic enterprise model can reduce
complexity and support the management in goal setting, control and change
processes [zimmermann95]
EPFL Lausanne University : Events and Exception Management
Exception handling and event management in a CIMOSA enterprise model
operating on a CIME Computing Environment (CCE) platform has been investigated.
Consistency and integrity can be insured by enhancing the specifications.

CIMOSA Association
ESPRIT Projects :
EP 9814 : CIMOSA-PES (Promotion and Evolution Support)
The goal of the CIMOSA-PES Working Group was to protect the significant
investments made by the EC and the industrial and research organisations
being involved in CIMOSA development, validation and exploitation. This
goal has been realised by the following objectives:
- achieve public awareness on and recognition of CIMOSA,
- achieve industrial acceptance of CIMOSA,
- harmonise CIMOSA related standardisation activities
- support evolution of specification and
- disseminate information on evolution of CIMOSA specifications.
Highlights on achievements :
- 4 technical workshops on enterprise integration held Europe wide
- new version of the CIMOSA Technical Specification released (business
process modelling section )
- extensive survey on business process modelling tools (more than 300
tools)
- ENV on business modelling constructs issued by CEN TC310/WG1
- set of material prepared for information dissemination
EP 21859 : EI-IC (Enterprise Integration - International Consensus)
The United States and the European Commission jointly support an international
initiative on consensus building in Enterprise Integration. NIST in the
USA and the CIMOSA Association in Europe have taken the responsibility
for organising a series of workshops followed by the ICEIMT'97 conference
Objectives:
- develop an international pre-normative consensus among both suppliers
and users on a synthesised set of technical issues sufficient to provide
a common context for the discussion and comparison of EI technology alternatives.
- develop approaches for resolution, potentially leading to collaborative
research demonstrations
- review the relevant standardisation efforts aiming towards a coherent
set of standards supporting enterprise integration.
Other CIMOSA Application related work :
Comparison and mapping of the modelling constructs and -methods
referenced to GERAM (Generalised Enterprise Reference Architecture and
Methodologies Framework) and the ENV 12204 pre-standard
- ARIS (IDS Prof. Scheer, Saarbruecken, D)
- CIMOSA
- GRAI (University Bordeaux, F)
- IEM (IPK Fraunhofer Berlin, D)
- PERA (Purdue University, USA)
The analysis identifies the compatibilities of the different modelling
methodologies and their emphasis on particular parts of the enterprise
modelling task. It demonstrates the value of process oriented representation
of modelling methodologies and allows to identify the information used
an produced during model creation.[kosanke96]
Quality management
A CIMOSA process model of the ISO 9000 methodology for implementation,
usage and maintenance of quality management systems. Application of the
model provides an improved understanding of the ISO 9000 methodology and
a comprehensive and easily maintainable quality documentation. [zelm97]
